PASSION OVER POLITICS 2: THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX w/ the OUTLAW

Welcome Friends, Comrades, & Colleagues this is my first entry of many which is titled "Thinking Outside the Box" with the OUTLAW. With God's Blessing and Tupac's spirit, I will break down todays topics with overall facts combined with educated opinion. Basically, balancing the outlets of communication because right now, there aren't any outlets for the Mature Hip Hop Head to speak. Lets get into it with my first entry titled: PASSION OVER POLITICS PART 2.

After an overwhelming response I received on my first Passion over Politics entry, I decided to put in work for part 2. Part 2 Passion over Politics will cover sacrifice. Sacrifice is a big part of who stays or who goes in this Music Game.

Sacrifice, Something You Love:

In order to gain momentum, separate yourself from the pack, and remain relevant in the "building" you must sacrifice something you love. Examples of something you love can come in a wide range of topics but what's most important is to give up or put a temporary halt on any and all bad habits. Bad Habits is the number one killer to the growing executive. Addiction to anything less than your career is fatal. If your a weed head, this business requires you to think fast and on your feet. The slur in your speech, the delay in response, the reeking of MJ on your clothes is unprofessional for the executive. In the entertainment world, drugs are for artist and entourage only. Any executive caught in public doing drugs is an executive thats way to "happy to be here" and you can count the days of his or her survival. If you love the social nightlife and your hitting the clubs, don't drink on the job. If your not on the job, drink very little. Fake it if you have to drink, cranberry and pineapple mix is the best fakeout drink if you need to have a "cup" in your hand for image purposes. Any up and coming executive caught in the club "pissy" is an executive asking to get layed off, fired, or blackballed in the game. Female if power is your addiction, don't discreetly sex male executives. Even if you and your partner are keeping it on the low, if you jump around from exec to exec your boss will find out and in the most strangest of atmospheres.

Your name is your credit in this business, the minute you foul up your name your credibilty and eventually longevity will be shot with the double barrell if you sacrifice your credibilty for your quick fix. Do not become overly passionate. The overpassionate problem usually lurks when dealing with someone at the door of an exclusive get together event. Usually its the assistant with the attitude who really can't handle POWER is the one who barely looks on the guest list for your name for "show". She can't wait to tell you how much your name isn't in the list. The Over passionate over zealous up and coming is most likely to get ridiculed because there is nothing humble about their approach in dealing with people. The position of power is too great and they can't even handle it. Therefore they rather entertain the Stank for 15 minutes of fame rather than humble themselves out in effort to gain 15 years staying power.

Someone you Love:

This is the hard part. Feelings and emotions play an unforgiving game when the up and coming is trying to make something happen. I tell my interns that an internship can "turnover" anywhere between 2 weeks or 2 years. No internship should carry over 2 years, and no assistant should be "settled" in their position after maybe 3 to 4 years of service. When growing to position, if your a male, your female will clown you for being the go-fer dude, the man under the man, or she will belittle you somehow. Its a given and its natural. She is only expressing her frustration that she is currently "fucking around with the help" and can probably think of past drug dealers or athletes she could have been with. Sacrifice her. You may love her, you may lust her but without 100% support not 99.9%. 100% support is what's needed and anything less than that she gots to go. Even before she starts. The signs will show when she says "I don't care what it is you do, I'm there for you". Thats the key phrase right there that lets you know that your sand in our relationship hour glass is running and running slow. Hurry up with your career moves. The key phrase of "support" also suggest that if you do become successful in your quest and too "wrapped up" into your work, you will now become accessible to the limelight and she becomes jealous. Every minute you have to "report" where you are and who your around. Once it becomes apparent that the male is not cheating with another female then the "other woman" is your career. She will make you feel guilty for waking up excited to go to work. Sacrifice her before its too late, even if you at the peak of your relationship. She must leave your life at once.

Females, your boyfriend will not accept your access in this game because he will be intimidated by your power. The phone ringing constantly, the blackberry alerting, the conference calls, its just way to much for him to handle. If your a career woman then you must leave him. If your a virtuous woman who so happens to be in this business you will have to be a perfect balance of catering to your man and making him feel secure while handling your handle and making your handle seem sexy. Your man is not being insecure when he "accuses you" of doing what you ain't supposed to do in your field. The reason why your man is being insecure is because your surrounded by a bunch of people who most likely has the same or more access than you. Most likely the dudes your around all have some decent income and power that can easily be lusted over in this materialistic age. Keep reminding your man he's safe and the journey your taking is a journey that you guys are going on together, and this rule applies if you guys are high school or college sweethearts with unconditional history. Otherwise drop that dude the moment he brushes you off when you share your day and he's not interested to hear it cause he ain't got much to say as a stock boy or at UPS. Slave mentality talk while your BOSS talking will not work. Sacrifice that dude before you realize your level of conversation is limited and you feel like you have to take it down a notch just to carry conversation. You talking power moves while he talking sports.

Male & Female: the most important sacrifice is the permanent breakaway from your parents. Your parents will say phrases like "Get a Real Job" or "Make sure they pay You" type of talk that is really unfair. Its fairly unfair because you must realize that parents invest their blood, sweat, and tears into their children. They want to see instant results. Bad enough a college graduate is equivalent to a high school drop out the first year after graduation when it comes to the job market, interning for a major record label or in the record business is the worst thing you can do. UNLESS YOU ARE WEARING A UNIFORM OR HAVE ON A SUIT & TIE YOUR PARENTS WON'T ACCEPT YOUR CAREER. Most likely, your parents or grandparents won't accept your career until they physically aren't giving you any money and you start to show some assets for what you work for. Assets doesn't mean a studio apartment in NYC or LA unless you have migrated to the big city by yourself on a mission. Then again, the PASSION OVER POLITICS series isn't for the person who made the ultimate sacrifice by leaving their hometown to play in the big leagues. This is for the intern or executive that wonders why things aren't moving in a fast enough pace. You must sacrifice your dependency on your parents to move forward as an intern and beyond. The moment you feel you can "fall back" on your mission because your dad is rich your sadly mistaken, unless your dad is an executive in the business, then thats called a inheritance.

This Record was predicted to fall off the #1 ranking last week by me. Due to the NY Yankee of the World Series last week. Jay Z is bound to get that Number one ranking nationally, but because nationally one would associate Empire State of Mind with the Yankee win of the World Series, Empire may go away faster than the Run this Town record except for NY. Forever is holding on strong with a plus 126 this week n spins on the charts

CREEPING ON A COME UP (records threatening to enter a #3 or #5 position)

11. 50 Cent - Baby By Me - in a race for Positioning inside the Top 10. This record is up against 4th Quarter Rush Hour Projects with Jay Z, Usher, Trey Songs, Chris Brown, & Birdman all inside the Top 10 with Gainers that will make an Independent artist piss on himself. Before I Self Destruct is on itunes and Baby By Me is up 470 spins this week.

NEXT UP (YO! BELIEVE THATS ME) -records inching inside the Top 20 or 30

23. Snoop Dogg "Gangsta Luv" -I know Uncle Snoop and his audience will creep and have his record inside the Top #3. This is allready a hot record buzzing across nationally. Great to see our veterans making music just for fun and the SportsCenter Mike Ditka commercial is hilarious. Ted Chung is a beast. Record has over 260 spins this week shouts to Chris Green.

DROP IT LIKE ITS HOT (records falling out of the charts that you'll soon forget about)

29. Ester Dean "Drop It Low" - great strip club record when the girl is doing amazing tricks on the pole and stuff but has fell out of the call of duty for radio airplay. Record came back burned and familiar but the audience has moved on. Record has lost another 200 spins last week.

Say it Ain't So!! (records that are in the Top 200 charts by surprise)

36. Rihanna -Russian Roulette- This is where Rihanna is messing up. She is on this "Space Age pain" and trying to promote this pain to the Urban market. When Black people hear pain they must hear that old soul when singing. When Michael Jackson sang "ohh baby give me one more chance" he sounded like an old man who hit his toe on the funny part of the table. Rihanna needs to study "Mary J. Blige" - "My Life" if she wants to milk the "I've been through so much, I don't know what to do" image. Black people need to hear soul through pain and this rich kid imagery of suicidal thoughts ain't working with only a plus 168 spins this week. Hey, Chris Brown has a top ten record out right now while Rihanna still on 20/20 talking about her side of the story.

INTERSCOPE GEFFEN A&M URBAN DEPT What Up... Yeah I am biased, wassup Congradulations to the team. Empire State of Mind will dethrone us due to Positive research but lets celebrate a Number One Record on Colorado & Cloverfield. Over 100 spins this week at Number 1.

CREEPIN ON A COME UP (a record building toward a Top 3 or Top 5 Position)

12. Birdman f. Lil Wayne "Money to Blow"

I wonder why records like "Throw it in the Bag" by Fabolous & this record that promotes economic irresponsibility gets pushed while Great records that can be equally played in the clubs like Ghostface "Baby" gets put to the back burner. Watch the signs. Currently over 351 spins as they move this record in some markets to a Power so it can conveniently hit the top 10 record before 50 Cent Baby By Me, which is @ a plus 281 spins this week, and looking to chase the Trey Songs "I Invented Sex" record, which is at a plus 349 spins this week.

34. Gucci Mane f. Usher "Spotlight"

Gucci Mane's audience don't listen to Radio. Gucci Mane is a single Modern day NWA so records like this are used to translate into the radio market knowing that those who listen to him could care less about local radio. Radio needs Gucci Mane audience so their books or their shows look good. Ask a radio programmer to be honest: Do you really care for Gucci Mane's audience. None of these Programmers grew up with or like Gucci Mane so how do they understand that music. A reason Why Audience needs to take precedence over AGENDA. Currently over 330 spins this week while looking at Snoop Dogg's BDS for more market penetration.

DROP IT LIKE ITS HOT (records rapidly falling out of the Top 10 or 20)

19. Yo Gotti - 5 Star

Hot Record but when you look at the video you realize that this video could have came out 10 years ago. Nothing was said in this video that Amil aint say in Can I get a What What. I'm telling you when we analyze music in 2015 you will notice that there was no growth in Hip Hop since Juvenile's "Ha" came out. Currently lost 170 spins last week.

BRING EM OUT (Its Hard to Yell when the PD Pulls the Record Out)

5. Jay Z/Rihanna/Kanye West -Run This Town

Thank you that Rihanna's "Eh Eh Eh" the sound of the old lady Emma Stumping her toe on the funny part of the table. Thank You for Empire State of Mind cause Rihanna's annoying Eh Eh cannot come with us to 2010. This record lost almost 900 spins last week.

Love to See Juve back on the scene. I always liked Juve as an artist. Its great to see him back and impacting the charts inside the Top 30. Blue Collared Rapper Juve always delivers that Homegrown Hip Hop that reminds you of your cousin from the south thats just cool as hell for no reason. Big Ups to Juve and the UTP camp. He currently has over 110 spins this week in Mixshow.

Yes the audience that we fight over for market share with Top 40 format now, in 2009, Hip Hop is Pop Culture. The executives still can't place a handle on the audience because the trends shift due to the Inner City way of life. So "they" cater radio to the 18-24 Spanish female market and say "thats hip hop". Most, if not all these execs aren't from urban communities. Yet the same execs are the gate keepers to the very culture they underestimate. Shouts to Gucci Mane and I will tell you why. Read On.....

Spin Doctor report is my unofficial projection of how the charts are trending and which records will be creeping through your hood real soon either on the club or on the radio.

NUMBER ONE w/ a Bullet (#1 Position ranking on the Urban Chart)

1. Gucci Mane feat. Plies "Wasted"

Gucci Mane will probably stay Number One til Wednesday. But this is a perfect example of what happen when Markets 40-59 join together and support their audience with product that BESTS REPRESENTS THE AUDIENCE. Gucci is winning cause his CORE audience don't listen to radio. Prime example of that AUDIENCE determines the next star, not executives.

CREEPIN' on a COME UP (a record that is slowly rising and will soon be a top 10 record)

10. Usher "Papers"

Yup, like if you ain't see this one coming then your truly under a rock. Usher runs radio. Mess around he may be the closest living entertainment image we get to the Legendary Michael Jackson. Rightfully so, Usher releases a record it goes into rotation. PERIOD. What Mr. Program Director your market not ready for Usher? OK, we'll tell your Audience that Usher is t the building and watch a tailgate at your parking lot, I thought so. Number One Gainer inside the Top Ten for Usher.

DROP IT LIKE ITS HOT (a record that lost spins nationally ALL OF A SUDDEN)

2. Jay Z & "dem" "Run this Town"

I'm sorry Jigga fan, Rihanna sounds like when "a garbage truck fell off the Empire State building" every time I hear this God Awful record that Kanye' saved with his scene stealing verse. This record is trying to get replaced by the real record that will gain momentum due to the Yankees recent ALCS win and will probably boost in the "familiar" ranking of research if the Yankees clinch the title.

11. Trey Songs "I Invented Sex" w/Drake

In a time when the AUDIENCE needs classic music with seductive and creative titles we have a record that has over 360 spins on the chart nationally, creeping inside the top ten gaining on Usher. I personally haven't heard the song but my Gosh someone tell Trey to be more creative and Socially responsible with his song titles. In high school, R. Kelly had 12 Play homey, and to my generation that album got the most corniest dweeb in school some passionate virginity break off sessions. Stop chasing hit records and STOP TIME WITH MEMORABLE MUSIC if you want to get at R. Kelly.

BRING EM OUT -Its Hard to Yell When the PD-Pulls the Record Out (losing spins cause of bad research)

14. Alicia Keys "Doesn't Mean a Thing"

Woah! Alicia has a record that couldn't at least get inside the Top 5? Man Beyonce could have did a collab with Rudy & MushMouth off Fat Albert and that bitch better go top five. An Alicia Keys record dead at #14 is very unheard of from J Records core cash cow.

SAY IT AINT SO! (a record that should have been or shouldn't have been)

58. Rihanna "Russian Roulette"

That edgy, I just got hurt music is about to bite Rihanna in the ass. Rihanna you are not tough no gun shots needs to be going off on your record. Your Not of that element. Ne-Yo that record could have went to Keysha Cole and released as a third single mandatory ballad. The audience wants to see a "We Shall Overcome" Rihanna. A Rihanna that is gonna party, be funky, and wear lip gloss all over the visual. A Rihanna that has moved on, not a Rihanna that is now damaged scorned, hot, yet heartless? Come on where is the Product Manager & A&R coordination man? Only 250 spins last week to show for all that publicity in 2009.

Gucci Mane is as good as staying in the Top 3 w/ Wasted. With less than 500 spins to go expect Drake "Forever" to dethrone Jay Z from the Number One ranking.

8. Letoya Lucket feat. Ludacris

Talk about life support, this record was supposed to die inside the Top 10 but boosted up a few slots due to some great research and some gangsta promo exercised by a well career decorated OG. This is what happens when you take a record out of the Overnights and split the dayparts for a fair shot at proper call out.

Is it me or has this project really lived up to the expectations of a Mariah Carey that we all know and love? She is dropping at a rate of over a 500 spin decrease each week.

Another Sisqo and KC from Jodeci only lived on top the charts for one week just in time for the ten year anniversary of Sisqo's thong song.

Just got the clearance from the big homey Corey Sparks not to even judge this artist by his name or the label he's on, the fact he from the South and it takes us authentic East Coast dudes to "catch up" or "fall back" a little and understand True Trap Culture. Just that I can't see me going to school saying that an artist named after the phrase Fozzie Bear off the Muppets was saying in cartoons, is my favorite rapper.

Take a look at what records will be creeping in your market and which of your two favorite artists battle it out for chart position. for those that don't understand certain industry chart reading jargon, please pay attention, thats the reason, you shouldn't have Soundscan in your hand. For those that do know what I'm talking about when I use specific jargon, use this guide as a tool for your next conference call..... Let's Ride....

Number One With a Bullet

1. Drake/Trey Songs "Successful"

Well Without the Bullet, Only a Remix with Dr. Dre can bring the record back but after 13 weeks on the chart at Number 1, Drake doesn't seem to trip. As long as Rihanna singing EH EHE EH all over Jay Z "Run this Town" doesn't hit number one all is great in the world. "Run This Town" will die a BDS's death @ #5.

9. Fabolous "Throw it In the Bag"

Another "Recession? What Recession" ass record that actually slipped threw the cracks and made its way inside the Top 10 peaking @ Number 7. So funny you watch CNN to see our President talk about a Stimulus plan while MTV Jams is showing videos of rappers basically saying "Recession! What Recession". This record has lost 500 spins this week due to Health Care Reform & Al Gore's Internet Era.

8. R. Kelly feat. Keri Hilson "Number One"

For those who think R. Kelly is over will guess again when this record reached that number one mark. Currently the Number One "gainer" inside the top ten with over 270 radio spins nationally last week this record is the official Mariah Carey "Obsessed" killer and is looking to do some serious damage to Trey Songs with his LOL Smiley Face Record with Gucci Mane. A true battle of the audience with these two going head to head to see who makes it to top 5 then top 3 first. My Bet is on Jive Records and their Promo Deparment.

52. Beyonce "Video Phone"

Alicia Keys may have a Number one Gainer on the Urban Charts, but equally equivalent Radio head Beyonce has just released this single that got over 300 spins just off GP last week. Its 4th Quarter so Beyonce may not have an upcoming project, but I won't be surprised if she silently releases some Christmas Songs this Holiday Season for that life long publishing money.

74. Nicki Minaj feat. Lil Wayne "I Get Crazy"

this artist has the looks, has the body, has the right connections. But thats all she has, the Southside Queens family from Trinidad rapper is relying on connections and good looks to get herself to the top. Are we all gonna actually buy into it? Its plenty of chicks in Queens especially you can make up then make a star, Shoot, the Bronx got away with J. Lo.

VH1 Hip Hop Honors Def Jam: Dave House Honors the Movie Krush Groove

We all know the story of Def Jam Records and how it started. If you grew up on Hip Hop then you grew up "on Def Jam" and the music put out by the LOGO which has been the Soundtrack to our urban lives after everyone grew up off Michael Jackson & Prince, and Lee Jeans became "played out". Run DMC, though signed to Profile, was the attitude of Def Jam that layed out the blueprint for LL Cool J to Public Enemy to Ja Rule & DMX. The logo was the co-sign.

The humble beginnings of Def Jam was well documented in the movie Krush Groove. When Krush Groove was originally released, the aura of seeing your favorite superstar immortalized on the big screen was enough for one to not pay attention to the knowledge this movie was giving on how to start an independent record company. You should not be an executive in this music industry and not RE-WATCH Krush Groove to enhance your game in this music industry. From Interns to Executives, from Music Industry A-Alikes to those who wanna Be alike, I have relaunched the "Spin Doctor Report": A weekly synopsis of unofficial projections of where and which markets are being penetrated with what records. In lamer terms, I'm basically letting you know what records is about to creep in your city, whether club or on radio, which record is dying and will live in the land of re-currents (if you hear the record again at all), and which two artist are truly beefing and at war due to the charts. Sit back relax.... Let Us Begin.....

Urban Charts Only

Number One (w/ a Bullet): a record that has reached Number One Position that continues to gain momentum.

1. Drake feat. Trey Songs "Successful"- Congrats to Drake & Trey Songs for exiting the Number 3 Position last week to get to number one. I see Detroit is in the lead playing this record 20 times a day while Drake or Trey pissed someone off in Richmond, VA since the record is dying in that market.

Creepin' On a Come Up: a record that is threatening the Top 5 or Top 10 Position.

4. Pleasure P - "Under" - Pleasure P needs to be watching Jay Z and make him his enemy. Once J"Run This Town" surpasses "Under" then Jigga is coming for Drake's Number One Spot. I don't know about you but Rihanna's "Eh Eh Eh" rant she does gets on my last nerve, as well as Pleasure P's since they both looking for that Number One Slot, while Gucci Mane & Plies "Wasted" tries to baller block plans for both Jigga & Pleasure P.

Here in the Spin Doctor Report, we bless the Music Industry with a quote from the Legendary Tupac Amaru Shakur every week to remind us of the struggle and how far we have come. After the quote, with all the Powers invested in me I educate and entertain the world with the Spin Doctor report, which aim is to forecast the music trends as they position itself on the charts. Or basically, tells you what's the next record your ex girlfriend gonna climb the pole to, or which song your kids will be singing rather than knowing the Presidents One thru Sixteen.

You Need One Annoying record for the year and for me this one is it. This track should feature Freddy Kruger and Edward Swissorhands armed and equipped with the Chalkboard if the engineer was going to walk out the studio satisfied with the hook to this song. But hey, Urban radio has this record at a Number One Position with a plus 230 spins for the week on Urban, 470 spin on Crossover, nationally. On the Urban Chart, in effort to see another week at Number One, "Live Your Life" will have to have a strong weekend in the mixshow to add to the rotation due to Beyonce's climb up the charts with "Single Ladies".

CREEPIN ON A COME UP

Beyonce "Single Ladies" (Put a Ring On It)

Number One gainer inside the top ten and on the top 200 charts, Beyonce drops another battered and scorned lady anthem. Beyonce has taken Kelis's "I Hate You So Much Right Now" crowd and gave them pride and something to look forward to and believe in. This record sits comfortable with an almost plus 700 spins for the week and is 470 spins away from the number one position.

CROSSOVER

Akon "Right Now" (Na Na Na)

The King of Crossover Radio (because Chamillionaire isn't around remember Ridin Dirty vs. Lonely) is back with a record that will grow on you before it grabs you. Akon has a plus 560 spins this week and sits inside the Top Ten. This record is the only record with momentum enough to dethrone TI "Live Your Life" when that record reaches number one. "Love Lockdown" may have lost steam due to this records jump and even though Beyonce "Single Ladies" is still down at Number 22. I would still watch the gainer on this record
